EAGC concludes successful three-day training on Integrated Pest Control and Management in Uganda

The energy in the room was unmistakable as grain sector professionals from across Uganda gathered in Kampala for three days of learning, practice, and collaboration , all brought together by a common goal: protecting grain from pests and safeguarding food quality across the value chain.

Our Grain Business Institute facilitated an intensive three-day training on Integrated Pest Control and Management from 11th to 13th March 2026 in Kampala, designed to strengthen the capacity of grain value chain actors in tackling one of the sector's most persistent challenges post-harvest pest infestations.

During the training participants explored practical approaches to pest identification, integrated pest management strategies, and safe fumigation practices.

Our experts from industry and trainers guided discussions on the impact of pesticides on human health and the environment, while highlighting the regulatory standards that govern pesticide management to ensure food safety and responsible use.

Exposure moved beyond the classroom when participants took part in a hands-on practical session hosted at Grainpulse Limited.

The field experience was facilitated by specialists from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), offering participants real-world exposure to best practices in pest control and regulatory compliance.

The training brought together leading grain sector players including Nile Cloud Limited, Bulk Stream Limited, and Nec Agro SMC Limited, whose participation reflects the private sector's growing commitment to improving grain storage, reducing losses, and strengthening food safety.

As the training concludes this afternoon, participants are leaving not only with new technical skills but also with renewed determination to apply integrated pest management solutions that protect grain quality, safeguard consumer health, and strengthen resilient grain markets across the region.
