Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo Refuses to Condemn Trump's Pardon of Jan. 6 Offenders Who Attacked Police

Nevada Current: "President Donald Trump's indiscriminate release of some 1,600 January 6 insurrection defendants, including those convicted of violent crimes against police, is meeting with mixed reviews from law enforcement, and with silence from Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo"

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo is refusing to say whether he supports President Donald Trump's decision to pardon, commute the prison sentences, or dismiss the cases of over 1,500 people charged with or convicted of crimes related to the January 6th insurrection, including those who violently attacked police officers.

According to new reporting from the Nevada Current, Gov. Lombardo "did not respond to requests for comment on Trump's wholesale pardons and acts of clemency."

Lombardo's silence on the issue is especially shocking given that his "identity as a 'law and order' candidate was integral to his campaign - so much so that he was fined $20,000 for displaying the trappings of being sheriff in his gubernatorial campaign ads, a violation of ethics laws."

This is not the first time that Gov. Lombardo has failed to support law enforcement officers. Lombardo faced heavy backlash from the state's police union who were "shocked and extremely disappointed" after he voted against a police officer pay raise and shorted them of longevity pay.

"Gov. Joe Lombardo's refusal to condemn Trump's pardon of violent criminals who attacked police officers proves that he is more concerned with showing his loyalty to Trump than his support for law enforcement officers," said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. "Joe Lombardo has no problem shamelessly using his taxpayer-funded position as sheriff to boost his political ambitions, but won't use his platform as governor to stand up for law enforcement officers. Nevadans deserve a governor who they can trust to always stand up for public safety and support the brave men and women who keep Nevada's communities safe - not just when it's politically convenient."
