Charges Filed Against Peoria Man in August Shooting
December 29, 2025, Peoria, IL - Today, a Peoria County Judge ordered John Earl Nichols, 30, to remain in custody while awaiting trial on Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon charges. Nichols was charged last week in connection with an August shooting at the Cityscape Apartment Complex that injured an adult male.
On August 16, 2025, around 8:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a person shot in the 600 block of Romeo B. Garrett Avenue. Officers located a 39-year-old male lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim told police that an unknown male had tried to rob him of his watch before shooting him.
A witness later reported that on the night of the shooting, she saw Nichols shoot the victim and flee the scene with a man in a wheelchair. This account was corroborated by surveillance footage and a second witness statement.
Nichols was arrested on December 25.
