This spring, Millersville University will highlight the issues surrounding disabilities and celebrate empowerment through its annual Disability Film Festival. The next screening is on March 22 at 6 p.m. in the Student Memorial Center. This festival challenges societal perceptions and broadens understanding by showcasing films that explore the experiences of individuals with disabilities.
"A Second Life" on March 22 at 6 p.m. in the Student Memorial Center Multi-Purpose Room
Elisabeth, a hard-of-hearing woman struggling with depression and emotional isolation, tries to make ends meet amidst the hustle and bustle of the Paris 2024 Games. An encounter with an eccentric American tourist leads them on a trip through the lively city streets where they confront their personal traumas. Intimate and life affirming, "A Second Life" provides a look into the unexpected beauty of savoring every moment we have on the paths we take through life.
A Zoom interview with the director, Elisabeth Vogler, will follow the screening.
"Rising Phoenix: A New Revolution" on April 11 at 6 p.m. in the Student Memorial Center Multi-Purpose Room
Directed by low-vision filmmaker Sheridan O'Donnell, "Rising Phoenix: A New Revolution" spotlights Paralympic champions, Hollywood actors and global disability activists. Featuring Lauren Ridloff, Ezra Frech, Jim LeBrecht and Anastasia Pagonisi, this powerful film is an electrifying portrait of the diversity and unity that lies at the heart of the disability community across the globe.
There will be an in-person community panel discussion following the screening.
