Public Health and Environmental Quality Honored for Outreach Efforts

Protecting our waterways starts with small efforts that can create a lasting impact.

The Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international organization dedicated to water quality and environmental protection, recently recognized those efforts with a Public Communication & Outreach Program Award. The award honors the Public Health and Environmental Quality Department's Love Water, Love Life campaign.

The recognition highlights outstanding public awareness, education, and outreach efforts conducted from mid-2025 to mid-2026. Through social media, student art contests, community events and educational outreach, the Love Water, Love Life campaign has helped residents learn how everyday actions can protect local waterways. The campaign has been an ongoing initiative for many years.

"It's been rewarding to see our community understand what it means to protect our waterways and environment through face-to-face outreach and different forms of communication. Being able to reach residents of all ages and help them understand what a watershed means has been meaningful," said Kylie Wieden, Environmental Outreach Specialist. "It's an honor to receive this award, not only for our dedication, but also knowing our efforts can make a difference."

As the Love Water, Love Life campaign continues, the department remains committed to educating residents and encouraging everyday actions that help protect local waterways.
