Wyden Statement on Tariff Exemptions

Washington, D.C. - Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement on reports that Donald Trump will lower tariffs on some food items in response to spiraling prices:

"After lying for months, Donald Trump has finally admitted that his tariffs are forcing Americans to pay more for groceries and making the affordability crisis worse. Americans are sick and tired of paying Trump's trade taxes to fund the huge tax cuts he gave to billionaires and corporations earlier this year.

"No announcement Trump makes on tariffs lasts for long. Even if he lifts his taxes on a few products this week, American consumers, farmers, and small businesses will be paying more for essential goods for as long as he's in office and Republicans refuse to do their job and end the tariffs. I'll be working at every opportunity to restore Congress's power over tariffs and give Americans relief from Trump's senseless trade taxes."
