The University of Toledo Counseling Center and the Office of Recreational Services are teaming up to put a wellness-focused twist on the traditional spring formal, offering students an opportunity to pair music and dancing with mental health awareness and self-care.
The semi-formal Sneaker Ball - which encourages students to pair high tops with high fashion - will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, at the Student Recreation Center basketball courts.
The event is free to students. Registration is not required.
In addition to a dance floor and DJ, students can meet with therapy animals, get a quick massage, pop into a photo booth and pick up free swag, snacks and a mocktail.
They'll also have the opportunity to explore on-campus mental health resources and visit interactive stations designed to promote wellness and resilience.
"We want to provide our students with a relaxed, judgment-free environment where they can dress up and have fun while learning more about self-care and taking a moment to focus on their mental health," said Dr. La Tasha Sullivan, director of the Counseling Center. "This is a way to break up the grind while letting students know they're supported and that we're here for them if they need us."
The University Counseling Center offers students a range of services, including self-help resources, free and confidential in-person counseling and on-demand virtual mental health services through a partnership with Mantra Health.
