Life is sweet for some local seniors now living in their new affordable apartment homes on Mt. Etna Drive in Clairemont. The first community event for residents, an ice cream social, was held inside the Senior Wellness Center attached to their building.
It has been fivemonths since the grand opening of the Paul Downey Senior Residence, a 79-unit apartment building for low-income seniors, 62 years and older. Built on County surplus land, it is one of four buildings planned for this intergenerational campus that will provide 404 new affordable homes when construction is complete in 2026.
The County has invested $57 million in the Mt. Etna development which is being developed by Chelsea Investment Corp. Supportive services are being provided by Serving Seniors.
