Dr. Brielle Frost, associate professor of music at Lamar University, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar Award and will teach in Sweden during the Spring 2027 semester.
Frost will serve as a guest instructor at the Ingesund School of Music at Karlstad University in Arvika, where she will teach applied flute lessons, coach chamber groups and flute ensemble, and lead a weekly studio class.
A performer and educator with an international profile, Frost has presented master classes and performances across the United States, Europe, and South America, including in Peru, Brazil, Italy, Costa Rica, and Canada. She is a substitute musician with the Symphony of Southeast Texas and has performed with the Valley Symphony Orchestra, Steamboat Symphony Orchestra, Topeka Symphony Orchestra, and Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra, among others. She is also a founding member of the Ambrosia Flute Trio, which has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Peru.
The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is a competitive international exchange initiative that supports scholars and educators conducting research and teaching abroad while fostering cross-cultural collaboration in more than 160 countries.
"Receiving a Fulbright Scholar award is a tremendous honor and privilege," Frost said. "I recognize the significance and prestige of this distinction and am grateful to be part of such an esteemed community of scholars."
She added that the award also aligns closely with her teaching philosophy.
"Teaching is my passion, and I look forward to sharing my pedagogical approach with students in a new academic setting," she said.
Beyond classroom teaching, Frost plans to expand collaboration across Scandinavia and within her host institution.
"The flute professor and I have discussed the possibility of creating a flute day event at the university, which may include performances, class presentations, and collaborative work with students during my visit," she said. "I also plan to reach out to flute professors in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark to offer masterclasses at various universities during my travels. I hope these efforts will create more opportunities for future exchanges and collaborations."
Frost will join a global network of Fulbright scholars working to build international connections through education and cultural exchange. Lamar University officials said the experience is expected to broaden opportunities for students and faculty while strengthening international ties.
