Clarifying the Cost of Protected Bike Lane Modifications in District 4
In response to recent reports incorrectly stating that the cost to remove elements of the City's Protected Bike Lane Project in District 4 is "approximately $500,000," the City would like to clarify that the actual cost of the berm removal work in District 4 on Sycamore Avenue and South Melrose Drive is $204,000.
In June 2025, the Vista City Council approved the removal of all berms and select delineators along South Melrose Drive and Sycamore Avenue in District 4. The original cost to install these berms was $485,000. The $204,000 removal cost covers all necessary labor, equipment, and materials to safely remove the infrastructure and restore the roadways.
No Other Changes to the Protected Bike Lane Project
No other changes are currently being made to Vista's Protected Bike Lane Project in the other Council districts. The only adjustment beyond the removal work is a pause on the installation of berms and delineators on East Vista Way. This pause will allow the City Council to evaluate this portion of the protected bike lane project after the City completes a separate grant-funded project involving the installation of landscaped center medians on East Vista Way between Williamston Street and Taylor Street.
