SIIA Joins Coalition Urging Increased FY27 Funding for NIST and AI Innovation
SIIA joined a broad coalition of industry leaders, academic institutions, and public interest organizations in sending bipartisan letters to House and Senate appropriators urging robust funding for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Fiscal Year 2027. The letters emphasize the importance of sustained and increased investment in NIST's artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives, including the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI), to maintain U.S. technological leadership.
The coalition highlights NIST's critical role in advancing AI measurement science, risk management frameworks, and technical standards that support safe, trustworthy, and innovative AI systems. With AI playing an increasingly central role in the economy and global competition intensifying, the signatories call on Congress to build on prior funding levels and ensure NIST has the resources necessary to drive responsible AI development and safeguard the public.
