Chair of Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs Heriknaz Tigranyan meets with ILO representatives
On January 23, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs Heriknaz Tigranyan met with the Specialist on Fight Against Gender Equality and Discrimination of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Özge Berber-Agtaş and the ILO National Coordinator Nune Hovhannisyan.
Issues regarding the ratification process of Convention No. 190 on Violence and Harassment, the provisions of the draft RA Law on Anti-Discrimination, and relevant legislative amendments were discussed at the meeting.
Welcoming the guests, the Committee Chair noted that in anticipation of the adoption of Convention No. 190 on Violence and Harassment and the draft RA Law on Anti-Discrimination, some legislative amendments have been made to the RA Labour Code, but there is still work to be done in that direction.
As the guests informed, the Convention No. 190 on Violence and Harassment was adopted in 2019, as part of the ILO's 100th anniversary, and has already been ratified by 45 countries. Kyrgyzstan has so far ratified in the region.
The interlocutors discussed violence and harassment in the workplace, gender equality, unequal pay for women and men, the protection of the labor rights of unregistered persons engaged in informal work, in particular, domestic work for children, the elderly and the disabled, as well as rural work, and a number of other issues of common interest.
The ILO Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Specialist Özge Berber-Agtaş presented the work and programs implemented by the organization to the Committee Chair, and touched upon the training courses implemented by the organization. It was noted that they are organized to strengthen the capacities of the employees of the RA Health and Labor Inspection Body, the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia, and a number of RA ministries.
