The City of Lewisville has earned the prestigious Bronze Leaf Award from the Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council (CTUFC) in recognition of the City's exceptional urban forestry achievements as part of its 2025 Centennial celebration.
The award honors programs and projects that significantly enhance and protect the urban forest through innovation, stewardship, and community engagement.
Lewisville's Centennial initiatives placed trees and nature at the center of the celebration, leaving a lasting environmental legacy for the community's next 100 years. Through a coordinated series of projects, partnerships, and volunteer events, the City dramatically expanded canopy coverage, restored native landscapes, and connected residents to hands-on conservation opportunities.
During the Centennial year, Lewisville achieved measurable outcomes, including:
"The trees planted today are for the benefit of the air, better for shade and to provide for the next generation to come." said Lewisville resident, Guillermina.
A cornerstone of the Centennial effort was the City's emphasis on community participation. Volunteers, civic groups, schools, and partner organizations contributed thousands of service hours planting trees, removing invasive species, and restoring natural areas. These collaborative efforts strengthened community pride while advancing long-term sustainability goals.
The award-winning work aligns with Lewisville's broader vision of expanding access to nature, increasing urban canopy, and building climate resilience through green infrastructure. By prioritizing planting in underserved areas and integrating native species, the City is ensuring that environmental benefits are shared equitably across the community.
The Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council's Bronze Leaf Award recognizes outstanding contributions to urban forestry across North Texas, highlighting projects that produce meaningful environmental and social benefits while inspiring other communities to follow suit.
Lewisville's Centennial urban forestry initiatives demonstrate how cities can celebrate their history while investing in a healthier, greener future.
