Argall, Walsh Announce More Than $670,000 in State Grants for Luzerne County Community Projects

HARRISBURG - State grants totaling more than $670,000 were awarded to community and economic development projects in Luzerne County this week, according to Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Rep. Jamie Walsh (R-117), who worked with local leaders to secure this highly competitive funding.

"Towns and neighborhoods in all corners of our region will benefit from this funding," Argall said.

"Investing in these community projects is about protecting our infrastructure, strengthening our municipalities and ensuring every resident has access to safe, reliable public spaces," Walsh said. "When we support projects like these, we're investing directly in the long-term strength and resilience of our communities."

• Foster Township was awarded $73,000 to improve the Woodside Playground.
• Freeland Borough was awarded $281,444 to replace the roof of its municipal building.
• White Haven Borough was awarded $166,623 to rehabilitate Powerhouse Road, including paving and installing new guide rails, lines and signage.
• The Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority, on behalf of the Greater Wyoming Valley YMCA, was awarded $150,000 for the construction of a new dining lodge at Camp Kresge in Dennison Township.

This funding was awarded through the Luzerne County Local Share Account program, which distributes gaming revenue to projects that support community and economic development. The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
