Bob Sikes Bridge Temporary Lane Closure Begins April 22

A temporary weekday lane closure will be in effect beginning Wednesday, April 22 for the southbound outside lane of the Bob Sikes Bridge, entering Pensacola Beach, as crews perform necessary road work for the Pensacola Beach Gateway Improvements Project.

Northbound traffic exiting Pensacola Beach will not be impacted by the lane closure. Drivers traveling south entering Pensacola Beach should use extra caution and follow road crew instructions and posted signs when traveling through the work zone. Work will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and is expected to be completed by Friday, May 8, weather permitting.

A temporary lane shift on Pensacola Beach Boulevard is also in effect for southbound traffic entering Pensacola Beach.

Work is being performed for the installation of the new toll gantry and its associated equipment as part of the Pensacola Beach Gateway Improvements Project. The project includes demolition of the current Bob Sikes Toll Plaza to build a new toll gantry with applicable toll-by-plate equipment, CCTV cameras, and new fiber optic communications. Work also includes replacing the roadway once the existing toll booth is demolished. The new toll gantry will offer enhanced safety features, such as better access for emergency response vehicles, while also helping to reduce congestion at the entrance to Pensacola Beach.

If other roadway closures are necessary or work is delayed, another notice will be issued.
