Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus is proud to announce that William "Bill" Kirnan has been named Orange County's Citizen of the Month for July 2025.
Kirnan, a longtime Walden resident, served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for two decades and has remained deeply involved in public service ever since. He was nominated by Master Sgt. Anthony Galioto of the 105th Airlift Wing, who highlighted Kirnan's unwavering dedication to supporting veterans and numerous civic organizations across Orange County.
"Bill Kirnan represents the very best of Orange County," said Neuhaus. "His military service was just the start of a lifetime of giving back. From leading veterans' organizations to mentoring others and volunteering behind the scenes, he's always working to better his community. Bill is a quiet leader, but his positive impact is felt by many."
Kirnan is widely recognized for his volunteerism, particularly his work with the Hudson Valley Honor Flight program, which provides veterans the opportunity to visit national war memorials in Washington, D.C. He also serves as Commander of American Legion Post 158 in Walden and is active with the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 2, the Orange County Republican Committee, and the Hudson Valley St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee.
"Bill is one of the most dedicated, community focused, and patriotic people that I know," said Executive Director of Hudson Valley Honor Flight, Jennifer DeFrancesco. "He is always there to lend a helping hand, no matter what is needed."
Beyond his civic roles, Kirnan often donates his skills as a master electrician to assist local nonprofits, churches like Most Precious Blood Parish, and various community initiatives. He also serves as a Village of Walden Councilman.
The Town of Montgomery GOP recently created the "William Kirnan Community Service Award" in his honor, recognizing the exceptional contributions he continues to make.
"Bill is a cornerstone of our community," Galioto said. "His dedication, humility, and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need, especially fellow veterans, is inspiring. Naming a community service award after him was a no-brainer. He deserves every bit of recognition and more."
Neuhaus added: "Bill never seeks the spotlight, but his actions speak volumes. He's exactly the kind of citizen we should all strive to be."
Neuhaus introduced his Citizen of the Month Award, which acknowledges outstanding Orange County residents, in January of 2017.
