S&C Technology Helps Strengthen Grid Resilience Across the Philippines

Davao Light and Power improves resilience and reliability to support growth

CHICAGO, June 25, 2026 - S&C Electric Company, a leading innovator of resilient grid technology, recently worked with Davao Light and Power Company to strengthen grid resilience and reliability across its network in Davao City, Philippines. Following a successful pilot program, Davao Light deployed S&C's TripSaverĀ® II Cutout-Mounted Reclosers to reduce outages, improve service reliability, and support continued growth throughout the region.

"With support from S&C, the TripSaver II reclosers have drastically improved the reliability of our grid, reducing outage times for customers and time spent by our crews locating faults. Having an expert team, based locally, has given us peace of mind that S&C is committed to supporting us here in the Philippines," Said Enriczar Tia, President and COO, Davao Light and Power Company.

Davao Light and Power Company is one of the Philippines' largest electric distribution utilities, supplying power across the city and the wider Davao region to more than 515,000 customers. The utility is committed to delivering reliable electricity to Davao City and its neighboring communities, supporting the homes, businesses, and critical services that power the region's economy.

Reliable electricity is essential to the region's continued growth and development. Davao City's rapid economic expansion added new high-rise buildings, businesses, and residential customers, placing pressure on the existing electrical grid. As the city's infrastructure expanded, even brief outages had the potential to disrupt business operations, affect productivity, and impact the services customers depend on every day.

To address this challenge, Davao Light initiated a comprehensive grid modernization initiative designed to improve reliability and strengthen resilience across its distribution network. Working with S&C, the utility installed TripSaver II reclosers to replace existing lateral fuses and automatically restore power after temporary faults. Because over 60% of these faults were temporary, TripSaver II reclosers provided an effective solution for reducing customer interruptions caused by storms, vegetation, and animal contact.

The grid modernization project will help create a stronger foundation for future growth by improving the resilience and reliability of the electrical infrastructure that serves the region. Read the full case history here.
