WHO: Angela Nelson, Director, Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance (DCI)
WHAT: An educational opportunity for members of the media who cover health insurance issues, severe weather and other insurance-related topics. Director Nelson will provide a training session to help journalists understand intricate details about homeowners, auto and health insurance. The session will cover background information relevant to potential topics before legislators during the upcoming 2026 legislative session and explore matters such as where Missourians obtain health coverage, when insurance companies can cancel policies, whether there is such a thing as "full coverage," and more trending topics.
WHY: This training is designed to help those reporting on insurance and severe weather issues become more knowledgeable about the concepts involved, enabling clearer and more comprehensive reporting for readers and viewers.
WHEN: Monday, January 12, 2026 | 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
WHERE: Harry S Truman State Office Building, Room HST 500 (in-person attendees), 301 W. High Street, Jefferson City, MO, or Teams Event (virtual attendees).
