Rep. Huffman Announces $8 Million DOT/MARAD Grant for Crescent City Harbor Citizens' Dock Replacement

November 15, 2024

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the Crescent City Harbor District $8 million for its Citizens' Dock Replacement Project.

"It's terrific that DOT's Maritime Administration understands the need for important infrastructure improvements in Crescent City Harbor," Rep. Huffman said. "These funds will help modernize the port and improve safety, accessibility, and resilience in the face of future tsunamis, floods, and sea-level rise."

"We are deeply grateful for Representative Huffman's unwavering support in securing this transformative grant for the Crescent City Harbor District," said Crescent City Harbor Commission President Harry Adams. "This funding enables us to replace the aging Citizens' Dock, which is central to our local seafood industry, serves as a vital link in the local supply chain, boosting our port's resilience and supporting economic growth in Del Norte County."

The project to replace the existing Citizens' Dock is funded through MARAD's Port Infrastructure Development Program. It aims to expand development of sustainable fishery products, improve infrastructure for local industry, residents, and visitors, and help foster entrepreneurship and innovation. The investment builds on a 2022 federal investment of $7.6 million to rebuild the harbor's seawall.
