County Seeks Advisory Board Volunteers

​​Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that allows you to give back to your community and participate in your county's decision-making process? Serving on an Alachua County advisory board offers you this chance. The County Commission relies on input from these boards to make informed decisions and set policies.

Over 250 citizens serve on the advisory boards advising county government and local agencies on many topics. They include affordable housing, economic development, environmental protection, human rights, county finances, and many other issues. The Alachua County Commission seeks citizen volunteers to serve on various advisory boards.

For example, the Human Rights Board has three vacancies. The board makes recommendations to the equal opportunity manager for enforcing the Alachua County Human Rights Ordinance.

Current Advisory Board openings include:

• Agricultural Land Conservation Board - Ten vacancies, including one vacancy for an alternate, four vacancies for citizen at large (two with a term end date on April 2028, two with a term end date on April 2029), and five vacancies with qualifications including education and experience in agricultural lands management practices or land protection (two with a term end date on April 2028, three with a term end date on April 2029)
• Animal Welfare Advisory Committee - One vacancy for a certified veterinary technician or graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program
• Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Board (BPAB) to the MTPO - One vacancy for a county appointee #1
• Citizen's Disability Advisory Committee - Four vacancies for citizens at large
• Historical Commission - Nine vacancies for citizens at large (including five with a term end date on March 2028 and four with a term end date on March 2027)
• Housing Finance Authority - One vacancy for a citizen at large (knowledgeable in labor, finance or commerce)
• Human Rights Board - Three vacancies, including two citizen at large and one alternate
• Public Safety Coordinating Council - One vacancy, representative of county, state jobs programs, community groups who work with offenders and victims
• Tourist Development Council - One vacancy for hotel owner/operator
• Veteran Services Advisory Board - Three vacancies, including one citizen at large (veteran), one citizen at large (veteran) - alternate, and one post-9/11 veteran
