Joint Meeting in Rome of FAO, IFAD and WFP

The three Rome-based UN Organisations FAO, WFP and IFAD met today with their Members to discuss how to improve cooperation, synergies and efficiencies among them. The Ninth Informal Joint Meeting of the FAO Council, the IFAD Executive Board and the WFP Executive Board was hosted at WFP.

The European Union, which is a strong supporter of effective multilateralism and the UN80 process, is an active member of the Group of Friends on better cooperation among the Rome-based agencies chaired by India and Germany. In the interest of a UN that delivers better on global food security, we would like to see a reduction of mandate-overlap, joint planning, programming and procurement and clear progress on cooperation in the field in 8-10 pilot countries by the end of the year. Thanks a lot to IFAD President Alvaro Lario & WFP Carl Skau & FAO Maurizio Martina for your commitment to this challenging process!
