Aspirus, in partnership with the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce, will host a free CALM Conversations suicide prevention workshop on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, 205 Osceola Street, Laurium.
CALM Conversations is an introductory suicide prevention training designed for general adult audiences. No prior mental health or suicide prevention experience is required. The workshop equips participants with practical skills to recognize signs of suicide risk and respond with supportive, nonjudgmental conversations.
Participants will learn how to talk with a family member, friend, or other individual who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts. The training also explores how temporarily creating time and distance between a person at risk and access to lethal means can help save lives.
"A simple conversation can have a powerful impact," said Heidi Pritzl, Aspirus Suicide Prevention Coordinator. "Through CALM Conversations, participants learn how to recognize warning signs, engage in supportive dialogue, and take meaningful steps that may help save a life."
The workshop is free to attend, but advance registration is required by October 14, 2026. Space is limited.
Register by calling Jenn Jenich-Laplander at 906.337.6541 or online at aspirushealth.jotform.com/262735818973876.
