Riverbank, CA - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will activate a new traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 108 and Claus Road on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
For approximately one week after activation, the signal will operate in a flashing red mode, functioning as a three-way stop. This temporary phase gives motorists time to adjust to the new traffic controls. Changeable Message Signs are also in place to alert drivers to the updated intersection.
Over the past several months, Caltrans and its contractor have upgraded the T intersection - which previously featured free flow traffic on SR 108 and a stop sign on Claus Road - into a fully signalized intersection. Additional improvements include new pavement, retaining walls, upgraded drainage, and improved flow with the addition of a dedicated eastbound right turn lane.
This safety project aims to reduce both the frequency and severity of broadside collisions that have occurred when drivers failed to yield to through traffic on SR-108. By managing traffic movement and reducing conflict points, the new signal is expected to improve safety for motorists traveling through this busy corridor.
Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. All work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
For the safety of workers and other motorists, please Be Work Zone Alert. Caltrans also reminds motorists to #KnowBeforeYouGo by checking QuickMaps on your mobile device or visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov for real-time highway conditions.
