New York Times Honored With 9 Emmy Nominations

The New York Times received nine News and Documentary Emmy nominations for work throughout Opinion and the Newsroom.

Videos from Opinion were recognized with six nominations across five categories. In the News Discussion & Analysis category, Opinion was nominated for coverage demonstrating ICE deportations of people in the United States legally, and a look at fired independent watchdogs on wasteful U.S. government spending . In the Outstanding Health or Medical Coverage, it was nominated for a reconstruction of the Make America Healthy Again conspiracy theory rabbit hole, and in the Outstanding Business, Consumer or Economic Coverage category for its video on dynamic pricing .

Two of Opinion's nominations were for films from the Op-Docs series. The nominated works were: an animated film that follows a singer without legs as she questions why she's seen as inspirational in the Outstanding Light Feature: Short Form category; and a film that captures an artist preserving a disappearing glacier's sound , nominated in the Outstanding Climate, Environment or Weather Coverage category.

" Opinion's six nominations showcase the ambition and impact of our original video journalism and the creative range of our curation in Op-Docs. I couldn't be more proud of the teams that produced these films and the work they do every day to bring incredible storytelling alive for our audiences," said Opinion editor Kathleen Kingsbury.

The newsroom was nominated in the Outstanding Investigative Coverage: Short Form category for an investigation into how Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan, were freed from Romania - where they were under criminal investigation, accused of coercing women into pornography - after courting powerful figures on the American right to gain their freedom. Coverage from Video was also nominated in the Outstanding Investigative Coverage: Short Form category for a series of short-form videos on the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, that reviewed Musk's cost-saving claims , the initiative's big errors , DOGE's false claims and its misreported savings .

The newsroom was also nominated for Outstanding Continuing Coverage: Long Form, for a package of reporting on the war in Gaza, which brought forward details never seen before. Video captured the harrowing escape of a young Palestinian girl from an Israeli strike, and took a look at the suffering in Gaza during two years of war . Video also went behind the scenes to document six deadly minutes in which Israeli soldiers killed 15 rescue workers, while another piece explored the contradictory claims around a deadly hospital attack .

"These nominations reflect the breadth of our newsroom and commitment of our journalists, from urgent war coverage to rigorous investigations," said Solana Pyne, the newsroom's Video director. "It's incredibly rewarding to see this hard work recognized."
