Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is suspending the state's gas tax for 90 days after a summer of increased costs for drivers, WLWT reports.

The station turned to University of Cincinnati economist Gary Painter to explain if the measure will really offer significant relief for Ohio drivers in the coming months.

"They should not expect to see that price of gas fall more than 40 cents," Painter, professor and academic director of the Real Estate Center at UC's Lindner College of Business, told WLWT. "I suspect it'll be more in the range of 30 cents."

He emphasized that any savings from the suspended tax will be split between consumers and the oil companies that supply the gas.

"Consumers are not going to get the full reduction because there is going to be some savings that go to the producers," Painter said.
