Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach has extended the activation of its Inclement Weather Shelter, located at the Multi-Service Center (1301 W. 12th St.) for people experiencing unsheltered homelessness through Sunday night, Jan. 12, amid ongoing poor air quality related to the Los Angels County fires. The MSC will open at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, and will resume its normal operating hours beginning Tuesday, Jan. 14, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
The Inclement Weather Shelter is an emergency overnight shelter available during extreme weather conditions. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. each day and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. No registration is required. The shelter can host up to 60 people, with separate sleeping areas for men and women, and offers a variety of amenities and services, including:
The Inclement Weather Shelter has been activated since Jan. 7.
Homeless Services Bureau staff will continue to conduct outreach to notify people experiencing unsheltered homelessness of the shelter opportunity. Information is also being shared to registered participants of the City's text alert system. People experiencing homelessness are encouraged to sign up for text alerts about available resources. For English alerts, text "HOME" to 99411. For Spanish alerts, text "HOGAR" to 99411.
The City continues to advise residents of the potential unhealthy air quality due to multiple fires in Los Angeles County, which continue to produce heavy smoke.
