Families Gather for an Action-Packed Weekend on Campus

By Bowdoin
Family Weekend, when relatives and friends reunite with their favorite Bowdoin student, is one of the busiest weekends of the year at the College.

From Friday to Sunday, many events took place around the campus, from "Cookie Time" at the Schwartz Outdoor Leadership Center and a pancake breakfast at the Sexuality, Gender, and Women's Center, to special Campus Sustainability and Haunted Bowdoin tours.

Many professors opened up their Friday classes to visitors, allowing parents and others to learn about population genomics, the history of ancient Rome, multivariate calculus, or music theory, among lots of other topics.

Other highlights were the President's Summer Research Symposium on the Quad, where students presented their research via posters, and the Sarah and James Bowdoin Day ceremony, an annual celebration of academic achievement.

Student a cappella and dance groups put on a high-energy show in the Student Group Performance Showcase. The field hockey, soccer, rugby, and football teams competed in home games. And everyone was invited to nosh at the Family Weekend Chili and Chowder Cook-off and special Sunday jazz brunch.

Most importantly, families and students did a lot of catching up, including with a few beloved pooches.
