FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BALTIMORE, MD (Monday, February 2, 2026) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott released Baltimore's homicide and non-fatal shooting numbers for the beginning of 2026. As of this morning, Baltimore has seen 10 homicides and 26 nonfatal shootings compared to 11 homicides and 24 nonfatal shootings over the same time period in 2025.
2025 saw 133 homicides in Baltimore City - the fewest in nearly 50 years and a 60% drop from 2020.
"We saw significant reductions - not just in homicides and shootings, but across most major crime categories - in 2025. As we progress further into 2026, we are doubling down on the strategies that are working so that we can not just sustain, but build on, the reductions we have seen over the past three years," said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. "It is promising that we have been able to maintain the reductions we have seen over the past three years, but we know we have more work to do so that we can realize another 15%-plus decline this year. My administration, my Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, and the Baltimore Police Department will continue to work with our partners in the Governor's Office, the Office of the Attorney General, State's Attorney's Office, Baltimore's community violence intervention ecosystem, regional law enforcement, and our residents to build a better, safer city for all."
Baltimore's Group Violence Reduction Strategy (GVRS), a key partnership between BPD, the Mayor's Office, and prosecutors, which focuses on violent social networks responsible for driving the majority of violence in Baltimore, has seen success balancing services and accountability where appropriate. Together, these partners work to get those at the very highest risk of being involved in violence to put down the guns and change their lives for the better, while ensuring swift, certain, and legitimate consequences for those who continue to be involved in activity associated with group violence dynamics. As of Monday, January 19, 2026, GVRS has been connected with 613 arrests and helped enroll over 344 individuals to life coaching and wraparound services through YAP, Inc., and Roca since it began in BPD's Western District in January 2022.
Additionally, through the first month of the year, Baltimore Police Department officers have seized 153 firearms and 16 ghost guns.
Crime continues to drop among other major categories. As of January 31, 2026, auto thefts are down 17%, carjackings are down 41%, and robberies are down 27% compared to this time last year.
