The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) Traffic Unit is investigating the death of a pedestrian after she was hit by a vehicle on January 31.
88-year-old Joan Meyer of Avoca, NE passed away on Wednesday, February 4. Our thoughts go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time. Her injuries were initially thought to be non-life-threatening. The crash is now being investigated as a Motor Vehicle Homicide.
This all stems from a crash that occurred on Saturday when Meyer was struck by a vehicle around 8:50 a.m. in the area of 14th and G streets.
The preliminary investigation determined 47-year-old Michael Hughes of Denton, NE was driving his 2010 red Chevy Silverado pickup truck south on 14th Street and stopped at a stop sign just before the intersection. He attempted to turn left onto G Street and struck Meyer who was crossing the road in the crosswalk. Officers nearby responded immediately and rendered first aid on scene. She was then taken to the hospital for a serious head injury.
