Martin’s expertise on free speech featured in multiple publications

Sam Martin, the Frank and Bethine Church Endowed Chair for Public Affairs, provided insight in several media pieces on free speech and the recent assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk. Martin published an article for The Conversation that examined who Kirk was and why his influence mattered. The piece traced his rise as a conservative organizer, the founding of Turning Point USA and his role in shaping both campus politics and national debates about free speech and democracy.

Martin also participated in an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, where she discussed the value of free speech on college campuses even during periods of political violence. She shared that free speech and freely engaging ideas provide opportunities for students' growth and for the health of democracy more broadly.
