Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata attended the International Buddhist Prayer Service in Tribute to Historical Figures

On 17 August 2025, Ms. Siriporn Tantipanyathep, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, attended the International Buddhist Prayer Service at Bodh Gaya, in dedication to eminent figures who made significant contributions to Buddhism in India and the world, particularly in reviving Buddhism in India. The five historial figures were Emperor Ashoka, Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, former Prime Minister of India, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Anagarika Dharmapala. The ceremony was presided over by Phra Phromvajiravongs, Chairperson of the Thai Buddhist Missionary in India-Nepal and Abbot of the Royal Thai Monastery, with the participation of international Buddhist monks from various countries.

On this occasion, Consul-General lit ceremonial incense and candles before the portrait of Emperor Ashoka, followed by a joint prayer chant by the assembly of international monks to dedicate merit to the revered figures.

The ceremony not only served as a commemoration of those who played vital roles in the preservation and revival of Buddhism, but also as a platform to strengthen ties between the Thai Buddhist missionary network and representatives of the international Buddhist community.
It further reflected a shared commitment to deepening bonds of friendship and mutual understanding among Buddhist communities, thereby reinforcing the strength of Buddhism, with Buddhism itself serving as a bridge of friendship and understanding between the Thai and Indian peoples.
