Lonny Yarmus Named Head of the Division of Subspecialty Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Lonny Yarmus, DO, MBA, has been appointed Head of the Division of Subspecialty Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). A physician-scientist and internationally recognized leader in interventional pulmonology and procedural innovation, Dr. Yarmus is widely known for his expertise in minimally invasive diagnostics and therapeutics, outcomes research, and multidisciplinary program development.

Dr. Yarmus joins MSK from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he served as Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine, Section Chief of Interventional Pulmonology and Professor of Medicine and Oncology. During his tenure at Johns Hopkins, he built one of the nation's premier interventional pulmonary clinical and research programs and led numerous NIH-funded and sponsored multicenter clinical trials. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Interventional Pulmonary Outcomes Group (IPOG), a global research collaborative dedicated to advancing outcomes-based investigations in minimally invasive thoracic procedures. His work has helped shape national and international standards in robotic bronchoscopy, cryobiopsy, and advanced diagnostic imaging, and has led to multiple ongoing multicenter trials.

The Division of Subspecialty Medicine at MSK encompasses a broad portfolio of clinical and academic programs, including infectious diseases, nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, cardiology, pulmonary medicine, dermatology, and other specialties essential to comprehensive cancer care. Faculty within the division play a critical role in advancing multidisciplinary care, developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and leading investigator-initiated and collaborative research across the institution.

Dr. Yarmus earned his undergraduate degree from Emory University, medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed residency and fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care at Tufts Maine Medical Center and his Interventional Pulmonary fellowship at Johns Hopkins where he has served on faculty since 2009. He received his MBA from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
