The Richardson City Council has designated April as the City's Month of Volunteerism, recognizing the important role volunteers play in supporting City programs, services and events throughout the community. The observance is intended both to acknowledge current volunteers and encourage wider participation in community service, and highlights the many ways residents can get involved.
Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals, students, families, and organized groups. The City's volunteer webpage includes opportunities at the Animal Shelter, Library, Eisemann Center, Police Department VIPS program, boards and commissions, and major special events such as the Cottonwood Art Festival, Santa's Village and Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival. The webpage also notes opportunities that can accommodate school groups, corporate teams and other organizations looking to serve together.
In addition to event-based and service-oriented opportunities, residents can also serve on one of the City's boards and commissions, which advise City staff and the City Council on a range of topics affecting the community.
