  • He highlighted that the diversity of the member countries' political, economic, and social landscapes offers a broad perspective for addressing global challenges.

Secretary of Foreign Affairs Juan Ramón de la Fuente participated in the 29th Meeting of MIKTA Foreign Ministers (Mexico, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Türkiye, and Australia) held virtually on the evening of February 18.

In his remarks, Secretary De la Fuente put forward a series of proposals aimed at deepening ties among the group's member countries, including economic cooperation, investment promotion, and technological, cultural, and academic exchange, as well as the expansion of international development cooperation.

He underscored that the diversity of the member countries' political, economic, and social environments positions the group to bring a broad perspective to the current global challenges.

The meeting was chaired by Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Cho Hyun as MIKTA's pro tempore chair, and was also attended by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, as well as Deputy Foreign Ministers Arief Havas Oegroseno of Indonesia and Berris Ekinci of Türkiye.

Secretary De la Fuente commended Minister Cho Hyun for the progress achieved under the Republic of Korea's coordination of MIKTA, and congratulated Foreign Minister Penny Wong on assuming the pro tempore presidency. He expressed his confidence that, under Australia's leadership and with the support of all member countries, the group will continue to cement its role as a forum where cooperation among middle powers makes a meaningful difference.

The meeting also addressed the revitalization of MIKTA as a platform geared toward more pragmatic cooperation - one capable of delivering tangible results and reinforcing the group's role as a bridge between developed and developing nations.
