WASHINGTON, DC - TODAY, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse joined Congressman Gabe Amo in announcing $30,000 in National Endowment of the Arts funding for Newport Contemporary Ballet. This funding will support the Ballet's annual Newport Dance Festival, which this year will explore the theme of freedom in honor of America's 250th anniversary.
"Federal investment in the arts strengthens Rhode Island's vibrant cultural contributions, empowers our communities, and drives economic development across our state," said the lawmakers. "This funding will help the Newport Ballet celebrate our 250th anniversary by bringing artists to Aquidneck Island, expanding community engagement, and celebrating our nation's enduring freedom through dance."
"The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support opportunities across the country for Americans to experience and participate in the arts," said Mary Anne Carter, Chair of the National Endowment for the Arts. "As we celebrate the country's 250th anniversary this year, it is a moment to recognize the important role the arts continue to play in our lives, communities, and heritage."
