Long Beach, CA - On Friday, April 4, 2025, the City of Long Beach Economic Development Department (Department), in collaboration with California State University, Long Beach, Long Beach City College and Long Beach Unified School District, hosted the inaugural Space Beach Workforce, Education and Training Symposium (Symposium) to continue advancing workforce development efforts in the city's rapidly growing space and aerospace industry.

"The Symposium convened leaders in education and industry to discuss pathways and strategies for preparing the next generation of our aerospace workforce," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "By aligning our local talent with the needs of Space Beach, we're creating promising opportunities for youth and adults and securing the long-term economic growth of our city."

Hosted by the Department's Workforce Development Bureau, the event brought together local space and aerospace companies, education partners and workforce leaders to explore strategies for strengthening talent pipelines and creating career pathways for both youth and adults in Long Beach. The event highlighted the progress of Space Beach and the City's vision for continued industry growth and featured engaging panel discussions centered around shaping the future of Long Beach's education and workforce systems and aligning existing programs and resources with the specific workforce needs of the space and aerospace sectors.

"We are focused on building an economy that works for everyone and that starts with creating accessible and meaningful opportunities for all workers," said Long Beach Economic Development Director Bo Martinez. "We are incredibly thankful to our local education institutions and aerospace companies for coming together to build more robust talent pipelines in this thriving sector."

The Symposium builds on the success of the Space Beach Camp for youth, which began in summer 2024 to engage underserved youth in work-based learning experiences and mentorship opportunities in aerospace. Together, these efforts represent a growing and inclusive movement to connect residents of all ages to meaningful, future-focused careers in Long Beach's expanding space economy.
