To provide entry-level fire officer knowledge and skills to meet the minimum requirements in NFPA 1021.
This course is designed to give entry-level fire officers with the knowledge and skills to meet the minimum job performance requirements as outlined in based on NFPA 1021: Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications. The course identifies the requirements necessary to perform the duties of a first line supervisor or a supervisor who is in charge of a single fire company or station, with information and skills required for success. This course introduces the student to basic concepts of management and supervision by concentration on such topics as organization structure, communication skills, human resource management, community and government relations, administration, inspections and investigations, emergency service delivery and health and safety.
Candidates should expect to spend time outside of class to complete the required exercises as well as prepare for the written and practical examinations. Students are encouraged to bring personal cameras for use in the practical activity.
You must hold a certification for Fire Officer Strategy and Tactics (FOST), a First-Class Firefighter or a Firefighter II for one (1) year, and SHALL have been certified as an Instructor I before a testing ID will be issued.
