Netflix has unveiled today the premiere date and images of its new documentary Maré Branca: The Surreal Story of Rabo de Peixe , which explores the incident of how a shipment of cocaine appeared scattered along the coast of the Azores. The documentary will arrive on Netflix on October 17 , coinciding with the premiere of the second season of the hit series Rabo de Peixe , giving viewers the opportunity to delve into the true story that inspired the fiction.
The production recounts how, in 2001, a fisherman from a humble village on the island of São Miguel was the first to discover a large number of bundles of cocaine on the coast. The arrival of this high-purity drug transformed the life of a community that, until then, had never had contact with the substance, unleashing a wave of addiction and triggering a complex police investigation. Through multiple perspectives, the documentary gathers the testimonies of those involved and direct witnesses of this surreal true story that forever marked the lives of the inhabitants of Rabo de Peixe.
Maré Branca: The Surreal Story of Rabo de Peixe is a production of Portocabo Atlántico , with Alfonso Blanco as executive producer, written by Marcos Nine and directed by João Marques .
