A working meeting was held at the Ministry of the Interior on 2 February 2026 organised at the joint initiative of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and the Chairman of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Milovan Drecun, where the Ministry representatives informed the Committee members about three exceptionally important draft laws viz. Draft Law on Internal Affairs, Draft Law on Weapons and Ammunition and the Draft Law on Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking and Protection of Victims.
In his introductory speech, Veljko Odalovic, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, emphasised that these are legal solutions that represent an obligation of the Republic of Serbia within the framework of the Growth Plan and the Reform Agenda, and that the support and assistance of the Committee in this process is of exceptional importance for the Ministry. According to him, the Ministry of the Interior wanted to share with the members of the Committee all the solutions developed so far, created through broader consultations within the Ministry.
"This is the first transparent and public presentation of the proposed legal solutions. The Ministry will carefully listen to all proposals and suggestions and, within the framework of normative possibilities, strive to harmonise them before sending them into further procedure, which includes a public debate and obtaining the opinion of the European Commission," added Odalovic.
Committee Chairman Milovan Drecun said that the Committee is introducing a new working practice involving regular working meetings with security system institutions.
"The Defence and Internal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is establishing a new practice of working meetings, at which we will discuss topics of vital importance for the work of the Committee members and their deputies. We want to work together with the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff, as well as the Ministry of the Interior and the Police Directorate, to prepare the law," said Drecun, recalling that this practice has already begun through cooperation with the Ministry of Defence.
"This is not a Committee session, but a working meeting where we are familiarised with topics of exceptional importance for internal, public and state security. In addition to the Committee's regular duties, which include consideration of bills and quarterly reports of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defence, these meetings allow us to discuss in more detail and become familiar with all the topics and problems that both the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Interior deal with," said Drecun, assessing that this is a very good practice, met with full understanding by the the relevant institutions.
The meeting was attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Committee Chairman MA Milovan Drecun, Tomislav Jankovic, Prof. Dr Marko Milenkovic, Dragan M. Markovic, Prof. Dr Mitar Kovac, Djordjo Djordjic, Miroslav Aleksic, Bogdan Radovanovic, Goran Spasojevic, Milos Gnjidic, Ugljesa Markovic, Zivota Starcevic, Aleksandar Djukic, Branko Lukic, Stefan Janjic and Slavica Radovanovic.
