El Paso Electric and Base Power Install First Home Battery in El Paso as part of New Reliability Pilot Program

EL PASO, Texas (March 5, 2026)- El Paso Electric Company (EPE), in partnership with Base Power ("Base"), has completed the first residential battery installation in El Paso as part of EPE's new Battery Storage Pilot Program. This effort is designed to help serve customers in select areas where traditional infrastructure expansion is limited, while also providing participating customers with whole-home backup power during outages.

The pilot uses networked home battery systems installed at qualifying customer homes across EPE's Texas service region. When demand is high, such as during extreme summer heat, EPE can dispatch a portion of stored energy to help reduce strain on the grid, while preserving backup capability for customers when outages occur.

"Today marks a practical milestone for reliability in our region," said Liz Aragon, Sr. Project Manager of El Paso Electric. "By adding customer-sited batteries that can support the grid when it matters most, we're building a more resilient grid. One that can respond faster to changing conditions while also improving resiliency for participating households."

Through the program, qualifying homeowners can receive a whole-home battery backup system at no cost. For a limited time, the first 500 installed homeowners are also eligible to receive up to $500 ($250 per battery). Homeowners can see if they qualify atwww.basepowercompany.com/EPElectric

Base Power will install and maintain the batteries, and the systems will be integrated into EPE's operations to provide dispatchable capacity during high-demand periods. Creating a scalable model for adding flexible, customer-sited support without the longer timelines associated with traditional infrastructure buildout.
