The situation in the Middle East was the focus of the discussion between Prime Minister Andrey Gurov and H. Martin McDowell, Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of the United States in Bulgaria. At their meeting in the Prime Minister's Office, they discussed the complicated situation in the region and its impact on Europe's security in the event of presumable escalation and expansion of the conflict.

Another point on the agenda of the meeting was the Bulgaria-US relations and the two parties agreed on their willingness to promote cooperation in the field of high technologies, defense and energy. US support for the country's energy diversification and for the modernization of the Bulgarian Armed Forces in the interests of national and regional security was appreciated. In this context, Bulgaria's consistent efforts to implement the Vertical Gas Corridor as a strategic initiative were recognized. Inter alia, the discussion touched on the progress of the project to install Unit 7 and Unit 8 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) with the American modern AP1000 technology of the Westinghouse company.

Prime Minister Andrey Gurov brought forward the issue of Bulgaria's inclusion in the US Visa Waiver Program. The Prime Minister pointed out that this is a long-term national priority for the country and underscored the Bulgarian institutions' consistent efforts to meet the criteria. Prime Minister Andrey Gurov underlined the importance of constructive cooperation between Bulgaria and the USA in this field that is vital to our country.
