Cassidy Legislation to Protect Children and Teens Online Passes Senate

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) applauded the Senate's passage of his Children and Teens' Online Privacy Protection (COPPA 2.0) Act to ensure children and teenagers are protected online by updating online data privacy rules for the 21st century.

"Kids today grow up online. They should be protected when they do," said Dr. Cassidy. "We're giving parents peace of mind by protecting their kids' personal information."

The Children and Teens' Online Privacy Protection Act would prohibit targeted advertising to children and teenagers. It would also establish data minimization rules and an "Eraser Button" for users to delete all collected information on a child or teenager. This legislation would revise and extend COPPA by banning internet companies from collecting sensitive information on users ages 13-16 without consent and closing compliance loopholes.
