Mobile, Ala. - The City of Mobile invites residents, community stakeholders, and interested visitors to attend an informational meeting on July 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Robert Hope Community Center to receive an update on the continued progress of the highly anticipated Africatown Welcome Center.

Designed to serve as a gateway to one of America's most significant cultural and historical destinations, the Africatown Welcome Center will provide residents and visitors with a solid starting point to help tell the community's story. Featuring photographs and other artifacts, the center will guide visitors to other cultural and historical sites in Africatown.

"The City of Mobile remains committed to working alongside residents, community leaders, and partners to ensure the Africatown Welcome Center reflects the history, culture, and spirit of this extraordinary community," Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said. "We are excited to give the community an update on this project and where it stands. We ask anyone interested in learning more about this project to join us on July 16."

City representatives will be on hand to share project updates. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn how they can play an active role in preserving and sharing Africatown's story for generations to come. The Robert Hope Community Center is located at 850 Edwards Street.
