Mayor Bowser to Present Key to the City to Media Mogul Cathy Hughes
(Washington, DC) - On Wednesday, July 15 at 6:30 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will present a Key to the City to Cathy Hughes, the legendary founder and Chairwoman of Urban One, Inc., the premier multimedia parent company to Radio One and TV One. Hughes, a nationally revered media pioneer, launched her broadcasting empire 45 years ago in Washington, DC. As the leader of the nation's largest Black-owned multimedia company, Hughes has spent decades strengthening the District's creative economy and amplifying Black voices across the country. She has shaped radio, television and digital media for more than five decades and continues to create opportunities for thousands of Washingtonians. Her leadership and innovation have made her a defining figure in American media and a champion for Black voices and culture.
This celebration will take place during a special edition of Majic Wednesdays at Sycamore & Oak in Ward 8, featuring live performances by District Kings and the Junkyard Band.
