Synergies and specialised training: a strategic partnership to enhance the impact in cybersecurity and AI

Digital transformation is redefining the way public administrations, economies and societies operate at an unprecedented pace. However, this technological progress has also increased exposure to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats and has given rise to new challenges relating to artificial intelligence, data protection, information integrity and the resilience of critical infrastructure.

Against this backdrop, strengthening the capabilities of institutions and their professionals is a priority. Cyber resilience is built through well-prepared institutions, connected professionals and cooperation networks that enable the sharing of knowledge, experiences and best practice, so as to provide a joint response to increasingly complex challenges.

As part of this commitment to capacity-building and international cooperation, FIAP has facilitated the participation of eleven professionals from Ukraine and Latin America in the Cybersecurity Summer BootCamp, held in León, Spain, from 13 to 23 July.

The Cybersecurity Summer BootCamp, regarded as one of the most prestigious specialised cybersecurity training initiatives internationally, is jointly organised by the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) and the Organisation of American States (OAS).

Now in its eleventh year, the event brought together professionals from around the world to explore cyber incident management, the fight against cybercrime and the emerging challenges of artificial intelligence, combining technical, operational and legal training with opportunities for international exchange and cooperation.

FIAP's commitment to cybersecurity

FIAP took part in the Cybersecurity Summer BootCamp alongside representatives from two of its international cooperation projects in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Firstly, the EU4CyberUA project - EU support for cybersecurity in Ukraine, funded by the European Union and implemented by FIAP in partnership with the E-Governance Academy (EGA) - was represented by a delegation of five professionals from different regions of Ukraine. The group brought together technical, institutional and international cooperation experts, reflecting the diversity of Ukraine's national cybersecurity ecosystem and strengthening the country's capabilities as it aligns with European standards.

In addition, six professionals from Latin America have attended on behalf of the Cybersecurity and AI Initiative in Latin America and the Caribbean project. The participants have travelled from their respective countries to take part in this international forum for exchange, learning and cooperation. The initiative addresses the challenges of digital transformation by promoting regulatory convergence, strengthening digital sovereignty and adopting a people-centred approach, in line with the values and priorities of the European Union.

The joint participation of both projects in the Cybersecurity Summer BootCamp demonstrates the value of international cooperation driven by the European Union: connecting talent, institutions and knowledge to strengthen cybersecurity capabilities and build safer and more resilient digital ecosystems.
