On 18 December, the Ambassador of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Spain, Tomas Irnius, presented his credentials to King Felipe VI. The bilateral meeting, which took place after the presentation ceremony, focused on the prospects for developing bilateral relations between Lithuania and Spain, possibilities for strengthening cooperation in the fields of security and defense, and promoting economic and cultural ties.
The Ambassador thanked King Felipe VI for Spain's contribution to strengthening security on NATO's eastern flank - the country's air force is participating in NATO's Air Policing mission in Lithuania for the tenth time. The Ambassador also noted the need for a joint EU-NATO response to the hybrid attacks by Russia and Belarus against Lithuania and thanked Spain for its solidarity in this regard.
The conversation also covered prospects for cooperation in the defense industry and rail transport, noted the growing popularity of the Spanish language in Lithuania's education system, and discussed the possibility of establishing a Cervantes Institute in Lithuania to strengthen ties between the societies of both countries.
