Nashville Recognizes October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Metro Nashville Office of Family Safety, alongside Nashville's community partners, will mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October with a series of events, educational opportunities, and community outreach efforts designed to raise awareness, honor survivors, and remember those lost to domestic violence.

Domestic violence does not discriminate. It affects every neighborhood and every community in our city regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, or sexual orientation.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time to recognize the impact of abuse on families and communities, highlight available resources, and recommit to creating a safer Nashville. In 2023, 40% of all crimes against persons were domestic violence offenses. Nashville continues to see high rates of domestic violence, with thousands of calls for help made each year.

Please join us for free events, awareness campaigns, and trainings throughout October:

  • Meet us at the Bridge; Saturday, October 4 at 9 a.m. Pedestrian Bridge-Honoring the lives lost to domestic violence.
  • City-Wide Community Resource Fairs - Connecting residents with free services, education, and support.
  • Local and National Trainings-Join in on monthly live and recorded trainings throughout October.
  • Purple Thursday Awareness Day - Thursday, October 16-Wear purple to show support and post on social media with the hashtags #DVAM #PurpleThursday #OFS.

The Metro Nashville Office of Family Safety provides free and confidential support to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking. Through its Family Safety Centers, the office coordinates services with dozens of partner agencies to reduce barriers for survivors and create pathways to safety. Community members are encouraged to get involved by attending events, wearing purple to show support, and sharing information about available resources.
