Fried Frank Recognizes Katherine St. Romain with 2025 Robert E. Juceam Pro Bono Award

Press releases | October 24, 2025

Fried Frank announced today that partner Katherine St. Romain has received the 2025 Robert E. Juceam Pro Bono Award. Presented annually at the firm's Pro Bono Month celebration, this award honors an individual at the firm whose dedication to pro bono and public service reflects that of retired litigation partner and current of counsel Robert (Bob) E. Juceam.

"We established this award in Bob's honor last year to uphold the values he has championed for over 50 years as a member of the Fried Frank community and to continue his legacy of making an impact in our communities through pro bono work," said firm chairman Kenneth I. Rosh. "Kate is an outstanding firm citizen who embodies Bob's spirit of public service through her exceptional advocacy for DC's low-income and disadvantaged individuals and organizations."

Katherine's pro bono work is both diverse and impactful - spanning groundbreaking class actions for foreign-born US soldiers, criminal justice reform efforts, reproductive rights advocacy and immigration matters. In particular, she has dedicated much of her career to advocating for survivors of domestic violence and their children and advancing systemic reforms that promote women's safety and equality. She is a longstanding volunteer with Volunteer Legal Advocates (formerly DC Volunteer Lawyers Project), a nonprofit focused on providing comprehensive legal services to victims of domestic violence and at-risk children, and sits on the organization's Junior Board. She has advocated for gun restrictions to promote firearm safety and women's reproductive rights by filing amicus briefs on behalf of Jewish Women International and Physicians for Reproductive Health in cases before the US Supreme Court (respectively, United States v. Rahimi and Moyle v. United States).

"This recognition is a testament to the dedication, legal skill, solid judgement, rigor and compassion that Kate brings to the firm's pro bono efforts and the community," said Bob. "She has filed powerful amicus briefs and tirelessly supported women and victims of domestic violence. I am proud to witness a new generation at the firm, including Kate, who embrace this important work advocating for the needy and making their access to justice meaningful. They inspire us all."

For eight consecutive years, Katherine has been named to the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll, which recognizes attorneys who contribute 50 or more hours to indigent individuals in need of legal representation. In 2018, as part of a pro bono litigation team, she received the Jack Wasserman Memorial Award from the American Immigration Lawyers Association for excellence in litigation in the field of immigration law.

The Robert E. Juceam Pro Bono Award was established in 2024 in recognition of Bob's exemplary, lifelong commitment to pro bono and public service. He dedicated much of his career to fighting for vulnerable communities and for systematic reform in multiple substantive areas to ensure fairness for those involved in the legal process.
