Kenosha, Wis. - Seven University of Wisconsin-Parkside undergraduate research teams recently presented their work at the Universities of Wisconsin Research in the Rotunda event, held on March 11 in the State Capitol in Madison. The signature systemwide showcase featured student scholars from all UW campuses-highlighting the depth and impact of undergraduate research across the state.
As a regional public university committed to student success, UW-Parkside emphasizes hands-on learning and undergraduate research as essential experiences that prepare students for future careers, graduate study, and civic leadership. Each UW institution is invited to bring up to six student posters. UW-Parkside also featured an additional project through its participation in the Freshwater Collaborative of Wisconsin, a statewide initiative supporting research and workforce development in water-related fields.
UW-Parkside's student projects included work in the humanities, sciences, business, education, and criminal justice: Angelina Palmer (English), Anna Becker (Philosophy), Clare Halladay, Addison James Perkins, and Bayleigh Tienhaara (Biological Sciences), Tyrek Jackson, Jonas Waller, and Brooke Mader (Business), Kaydence Korus (Teacher Education), Megan Bahr (Criminal Justice). Freshwater Collaborative of Wisconsin presenters included Andrew Malacara, Elyse Upthagrove, and Skylar Johnston (Biological Sciences).
Student Angelina Palmer highlights: "Conducting undergraduate research with a faculty mentor and presenting at Research in the Rotunda allowed me to further develop my written and verbal communication skills. From the conception of the project idea to sharing my work with legislators, I was supported by my mentor throughout the entire process. Their support gave me the confidence to take on this opportunity, and the skills I gained will be transferable to my future career."
Megan Bahr, who will begin her M.A. in Forensic and Biological Anthropology at the University of Montana this fall, reflects that: "Doing this research over the past year has helped me realize what I'm capable of as a student. It inspired me to pursue a master's degree in the field I've become so passionate about. It was an honor to present my work to state leaders and to be among this group of amazing student presenters". Research in the Rotunda continues to demonstrate how UW-Parkside students contribute meaningful inquiry and innovative ideas that benefit local communities and Wisconsin as a whole.
