August 12, 2026

Western Washington University officially opened applications for Fall 2027 on Aug. 1, marking the first admission cycle in which the university's Western Guaranteed Admission program is available to eligible students from every Washington state high school.

Previously available only to students in Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom counties, the expanded program reflects Western's commitment to increasing educational opportunity across the state and supporting Washington's goal of raising the number of state residents with postsecondary degrees.

Students qualify for Western Guaranteed Admission if they:

  • Attend a Washington state high school.
  • Earn a cumulative high school GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Are on track to complete Washington state high school graduation requirements.

All students who apply through the WWU application or Common App will be considered for Western Guaranteed Admission. Students who are not eligible for guaranteed admission will still be considered through Western's holistic review process. A $70 nonrefundable application fee is required, with fee waivers available for students who demonstrate financial need or attend an On the Spot Admission Day at high schools across the state.

"Every student in Washington should know that a public university is within reach," said President Sabah Randhawa. "By expanding Western Guaranteed Admission statewide, we are removing uncertainty from the admissions process and helping more students take the next step toward earning a degree."

The expansion is one of several enrollment initiatives designed to simplify the admissions process and make a Western education more accessible for Washington students. As one of the Pacific Northwest's leading public universities, Western pairs that broader access with a high-quality, student-centered education known for close faculty engagement, hands-on learning and strong academic outcomes.

Students who do not qualify for guaranteed admission are still encouraged to apply. Western continues to review every application through a holistic admissions process.

Prospective students can now submit applications for fall 2027 through either the WWU Application or the Common App and learn more about eligibility requirements at the Guaranteed Admission webpage.
